technology it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that technology will vary from race to race. some are more advanced than others, and the humans? well, their technology has a tendency to vary depending on where you are in phoenix. so, before you start throwing iphones and computers at your character, you might want to read through this thread to make sure your character can actually have such fancy gadgets. human advancements Humans lost most of their technology after the war, however, thanks to some people that knew how to use a screwdriver, they were able to salvage some electrical devices and make them work in limited ranges. Their technology is not nearly as strong as the Elves or the Dark Ones, but it is enough to supply some of the comfort the humans enjoyed before the two wars that destroyed their region. The most common thing humans use is electricity. They use water and wind to produce it, and have lost their resources for fuel and oil. The most common source of power these days is Pokemon labor. Some humans abuse this right, but most realize that Pokemon are doing them a great favor and don't work them too hard. transportation: Most humans now travel by train or by carts pulled by Pokemon. The railroads stretch through every city and are typically straight shots meant to help people get to their destinations as fast as possible. There are also bicycles. gadgets & gizmos: humans have been able to remake Pokeballs and have them operational. It takes some work to make them now, but humans were sure to fix their pokeballs so they could capture Pokemon. There is no PC system anymore, either, but humans have made due with their pokeballs which now create an invisible marker on the Pokemon they capture to mark it as theirs. communication: believe it or not, humans have been able to get cell phone towers operational and now use very basic cell phones to receive and send calls. There are no touch screens or games on the phones as they only serve one purpose: communication. Letters are also popular. other: the only other technology they have is working electricity (that sometimes goes out except in Iron City), air conditioning, heating, and some simple devices like DVD players and televisions to keep the kids entertained on rainy days. Otherwise, humans have kept things basic. elvish advancements The elves avoid any electricity unlike humans or Dark Ones and prefer the power of willing Pokemon and of their magic. Their lights are made out of plants that glow, crystals that make even the dullest of light shine brighter, and out of nice smelling natural oils. Elves do have a wide range of technology specialized to work for them and with their magic, but they also pride themselves on keeping some things very basic and nature friendly. Their main fuel source is their own magic, which can keep things going for a while, as well as oils that seep from the trees. They also use 'antler shads' or pieces of glowing gems off of elder's Life antlers that are sometimes found in random places. They only work in the elven kingdom, however, and are kept near the tree - lest the elves want them to decay. transportation: the elves dislike trains and any other type of transportation besides walking or using a mount. Their favorites are Stantler and Sawsbuck, but any hooved Pokemon worked for getting through their homelands. There isn't much else they travel by unless they wanted to walk anywhere. gadgets & gizmos: Weaponry is something the elves have perfected, even if they like to keep their weapons natural. Bows and arrows are their preferred weapons, the tips blessed with light magic or dipped in some different types of herbs that - when mixed with blood - turn poisonous. Just because they're elves doesn't meant they avoid poison. Another favorite weapon involes steel blades that are forged in the mountains and also blessed with light magic. communication: Elves prefer letters stamped with the family mark or dripped with scented oils to indicate which part of the kingdom they are coming from, but they also use Chatot delivery - tell the bird what needs to be said and they will repeat it to whoever was supposed to receive it. however, messages usually have to be kept short or else the bird will mix its words. Another method is magic but only those that are above level four magic can usually use it without mishaps. other: Other technology includes medicine and antibiotics as well as vaccines. Elves typically give out their services in healing for free if someone wanders into their land and needs it, but they never give their secrets to anyone but the future healers. Elves have also learned how to tell the health, gender, and possible birth date of an unborn child and know how to care for pregnant mothers better than nearly anyone. They also specialize in treating some mental problems as long as the patient is willing - otherwise they are on their own. dark one advancements the dark ones are scientifically advanced, even if they may not seem like it in most areas of their territory. they have a thirst for knowledge, and they will do anything to obtain it, even if it means stepping outside of a morally sound area. their machines can often seem strange and, in a sense, steampunk, with a seemingly useless amount of metal, gears, and springs to not only make a functioning machine but also to add some design element to it as well. while a main power source of theirs involves magic, they have been able to use electicity, steam, and water to fuel their machines. there has even been talk about using ghost types a "fuel source," allowing them to possess certain machines and bring them to life, completely controlling them without having to code in commands. ah, but, certainly that's just a rumor, right? transportation: many prefer to travel by foot, or on the backs of their mount Pokemon. there are some battle-worn carriages pulled by equine Pokemon or tauros that will take people from place to place for a pretty coin, but they are not the safest choice of travel. gadgets & gizmos: while they may not have much in the form of electronic entertainment, they do have an extensive range of weapons from having to live underground where very few pokemon dared to go. they have various types of guns with bullets made of odd metals or created through the dark arts. they also have enchanted or poison-dipped swords. the dark ones are also known for their random inventions, so you never know what the tinkering few will come up with next. communication: it is often more of the social norm to write a letter and send it out with a pidgey or murkrow; however, the territory of the dark ones can be quite dangerous, and far too many letters have been intercepted. the dark ones have started using magic to relay information. or, actually, it's a machine fueled by magic. you write your letter, put it in, give a little chant, and it goes to the person you envision in your mind. it's... kind of like a fax machine. if you wish to call up a buddy, however, you will have to go meet them yourself. other: other than advances in weaponry, they may not seem like much. if anything, they seem almost primitive. yet, located deep underground, you can find their laboratories with technology that surpasses what they have above and can even be found in the other territories. they have already mastered genetics, cloning, and hybridization. who knows what they might come up with next. |
