A jerk in the past, Canis has now became a more kind person. He isn't quick to judge and rarely ever does. Normally he prefers to get to know someone before he judges them, if anything or if he had to. Besides- he isn't a higher power and stands in no place to even do such. In his opinion.

He was the eldest with a sister born just a year after he was- his father a plump, wealthy, business man but her mother divorced him for the easier life in the country where he grew up. His mother quickly remarrying to his school principle so she was never alone raising the two. But, school was very pressured from the start. He had to go every single day and never drop below a C unless he wanted to be placed in extracurricular activities and tutoring. So he kept low B's as a child, defiantly. But ever since a young age, he has played baseball.
As he grew older in his country life of Sinnoh, Flor was a popular kid with a good home life. Just like any average, healthy teenager. A jock of the town too, and he went to a lot of baseball games. He was one of the best players and always got the girlfriends. Pretty much a player until he graduated from high school and then got married to a beautiful girl. At twenty, he had a son. And just a couple days after his wife was released from the hospital- they went to a small baseball game. Some people watching but not many, just your basic backwoods performance. Yet it all went wrong. Some scientists said they'd give everyone a couple hundred dollars if they went to their laboratory to take a survey when the scientists showed up after the game.
And what exactly happened? Well, they were tossed into cages and deemed possible for future experiences. Of course doing that to jocks would cause some fighting and rebellion so punishment was ensued on the misbehaving. Starving and dehydration was first, but then beatings started. Twelve people on each team made at least twenty four people, plus Florians wife and child made it twenty eight. And whoever else was there totaled it to about forty people. Within the first couple of months there, Florians had his name changed to Canis Servitium and forty people? That number dropped down to at least twenty six, either dying from starvation or dehydration- those who died from violence were among many.
Those who did survive those couple of months were the ones used for experiments. And where did Canis fall into place? He was going to be a shifter, see if they could at least cause something like that. So they did, they tried. Using a mute Druddigon as what he'd shift into, the entire procedure took a wrong turn. The end result was hideous but dangerous- procedure gone wrong, and left Canis without a voice or sight. Yes, they took his sense of seeing away in the process. And if someone asks him now, he'll scribble on a piece of paper that he believes that is when he was separated from humanity and no longer blissfully oblivious.
In the months following, it was clear that Canis was a monster. Having violent tendencies, uncontrollable shifting- especially when he is angry, the blindness, the muteness. This all compounded and it was clear that Canis didn't meet his name, 'Canis Servitium' which meant Service Dog when translated from Latin. And due to the violent tendencies, he did get beat. A lot. They hated bad behavior and acting up when they were visiting the dungeons which they thought well for their experiments, since they considered them inhuman. Made inhuman by them, the scientists who treated all of the experiments that they created as such.
After two years passed, Canis was notified that his wife was dying of illness which her immune system could no longer fight off. The scientists thought they were to busy to try and help so they decided to put Canis with his wife and two year old son. Mainly to get him to keep the woman and child quiet, the woman always calling out for help and the child crying from fear in the dark chambers. Something the woman could barely comfort anymore.So Canis stayed with her until she died, which was just in a couple days since he moved in there. Not long after, he killed his own son so he didn't have to grow up in such awful conditions.
A week later, terribly depressed, he was cleaning a room with pokeballs when he smelled smoke. He jumped out the window with three pokeballs and ran. He didn't know that the building was on fire and he would never know- he didn't look back, he just ran. For miles at least before he tired and collapsed, sleeping by a river that night. In the morning, he discovered that he had taken two Klefki's and an Ursaring. Both of whom became friends.
For the next seven years, he traveled until he found Phoenix were he was hired by Professor Flame as her assistant.
