Personality: Zahi is strange, to say the least about him. A quiet person who prefers to sit back in the corner and watch things rather than speak. Yet when someone gets him to talking and opening up, he is very talkative and polite. He does however, avoid taking about the masks or his history. Personal information about Zahi is something he keeps off limits to many people, no one knows this personal information besides Whiskers and he plans to keep it that way.
So with this said, Zahi can be friendly but he can get very aggressive when sensitive topics or when people try to pry into his past life style and such gets reached. So it mostly depends on what you talk about with him to get either hostility or a friendly, warm side of him. And no, it does not matter what he considers you as. Unless you are his lover, you will always get this difference of moods on topics. As for enemies or people he doesn't like, there is an exception. He is always hostile towards them.
Now Zahi, despite not having any schooling, is fairly intelligent. But it isn't the intelligent of calculating extremely difficult algebra problems in his head but a different type of intelligent. Having to sit back and watch other people, learn about them, it is quite reasonable that he got this form of it. This form being, he can figure out peoples weak points and some of their background as well as a couple traits after getting to know them a bit. Even if it was not directly told to him.
This is because Zahi is a close listener, he knows how people act with different pasts. Trust issues? Must have been family issues or lots of heart break. Distant and reserved? Well someone must have beaten them like a carpet getting its annual dusting or maybe it was bullies? So with this mentioned, Zahi's intelligence is the fact he can worm he way into peoples lives. Gaining information about this personality, their lives- past and present and why they act like they do. And he does this a lot quicker than it takes most people.
Yet knowing the tricks and tips and how to find out such about people, Zahi made sure to make him and his lover nearly off limits. As in, keep themselves protected when someone else tries to do the same to him. There are some weak points but it will take a lot to find such.
And besides this, Zahi can have a caring and protective side towards friends. Especially close friends. Some levels and such are reserved for that special someone. Other traits too. No one else but his lover. Especially considering Zahi puts the feline before himself nearly all the time.

He was named Project 039X4M after that, one of the living subjects for the Croagunk gijinka project they were working on. A fun project in their free time- and yes, fun. These few minor scientists in this small facility didn't care about their projects, if they had a proper name or if they were well educated- they only wanted the basics, something to call them and something to show off in order to climb higher in the ranks of a scientist. This is where Project 039X4M, now known as Zahi, grew up.
It was a horrible childhood, to say the least. Locked away, given some bread and water, tested on, check ups ran- clean clothes and a bath when they were to be pranced around and shown off to others. He never got socialization, friends or a loving and caring environment a child should have. It was truly a battle of the fittest if one were born in this lab he was in. Sickness spread easily and was never taken care of, injuries had to be taken care of by oneself- if no one could survive from it, tough luck. No one was there to help you. Not even your neighbor considering they were probably to selfish and learned to do for themselves first.
And this was how it was like up until Project 039X4M became fifteen. At fifteen, he finally made his first friend. Project 923A56N, now known as Whiskers, a Meowth. This other project but a full blooded pokemon was forced to share the space with the Gijinka and they soon grew to like and tolerate each other. It was a bumpy path, sometimes they fought over food they found or about space. Yet over time, their arguments were shorter and less common.
Five years later when he was twenty, a fire broke out in the lab. Of course with it being in the middle of nowhere and not very well known, no one was able to reach there and put it out in time. Project 039X4M and Project 923A56N were able to have just their brief moment of free time, as a reward to being good during one of the tests. It was during this time the fire broke out.
The two projects got out, burned and hair charred but they got out. Alive too. Unfortunately, they were the only ones to make it out alive. Whether some researchers and scientists did too, it remains unknown to that day. All that is known is that the place remains a vague memory to those who worked with it. The laboratory and the people working there just kind of fell off the face of the earth after it was burnt down to the ground, after all the stuff that went on there.
But shortly after they watched it burn to a ground, the injured duo were brought to the pokemon center. They had medics get brought in to work on Project 039X4M though, unlike Project 923A56N who was fine with the regular pokemon hospital staff. They had to do this because the Croagunk gijinka refused to leave the Meowth's side and the Meowth refused to leave his side. So they had to work around this to make sure the two survived. Thankfully, the two did. When asked for names, former Project 039X4M told them Zahi and Whiskers. It marked a new start and a new beginning. With this new beginning, Zahi and Whiskers declared themselves mates. They have been inseparable since the fire and the hospital.
Neither of them wanting to remember things that have happened there, the two fled the region to a different one. Phoenix. Fairly difficult but they managed with some help along the way. And getting to the new region, Zahi obtained better clothes and two masks. One of a frog, to represent he is a Croagunk gijinka [it isn't very noticeable but the marks under the mask make it clearer, despite the burns] and a cat-like one to represent his partner is a feline. On the road to this new region, Zahi was given a sack of clothes, a sleeping bag and a small tent by a kind old lady.
With her help and many others, they got to the Phoenix region. Here, they have been roaming and traveling around. No one really knows of their presence or existence here yet but that'll change when they finally face human civilization and their ridicule for the first time in two to three years.

This Meowth is far from a beauty. Scraggly, plump, burned and charred fur. It was not born this way, oh no. It was never one of those special or shiny pokemon people here about. It was born as a normal Meowth but was for lab experiments in a lab. When the lab was burned down, Zahi and this Meowth were the only ones who managed to make it out. But unfortunately, both sported multiple injuries, mostly burns. Zahi kept the poor thing and named it Whiskers, he has taken a liking to Zahi. Especially because they can relate. Besides, the two are lovers anyways. The type who are together but do not breed or have any type of that interaction. Both are perfectly fine with the way their relationship is.
