It had always been one thing to hear the stories about how terrible the war had been, all of the death and destruction. It was something else entirely to witness the remains of even some of it, ruined homes like untouched bones not yet crumbled away or reclaimed.
Connor had always shrugged off the terror and tension, claimed to remember nothing from when he was a child. It was something easier to say in Iron City, a claim that left a different feeling with him now.
It was the small pokemon's new sounds that pulled his attention back to the present. Without even thinking about it, he was all smiles just like that, easy as pie. The eevee was cute, but more importantly she was finally reaching the point where he felt like it would be okay for her to travel. She could open her eyes, and had even gotten the hang of walking on her own. This was going to be a test only. Just in case, Salander was close by, watching the smaller pokemon carefully.
"Just stay close to me, and everything will be just fine. Alright?" The eevee made another one of those high pitched mewling noises, which he took to mean that maybe she understood, especially since Sal hadn't interjected or corrected anything. It was nice, really. Maybe the two of them would get along.
Speaking of, the fox's ears had been swiveling this way and that for a while now, but suddenly she stopped with a small growl, more alert than before. Conn stopped as she did, and the eevee followed suit. Perhaps she had no intention of getting too far ahead of Conn.
Hopefully, this would turn out alright.
